Deshawna Dookie, RSW, MSW, RYT

Deshawna (she/her) is a Registered Social Worker and Psychotherapist who supports racialized women navigating anxiety, mood-related concerns, workplace burnout, and the impacts of racial and intergenerational trauma. She also works with women moving through life transitions, including changes in identity, relationships, and career, helping them make sense of overwhelm and reconnect with themselves during periods of change.

Her work is grounded in the understanding that many experiences of stress, trauma, and emotional distress are not only cognitive, but are also held within the body. Deshawna integrates trauma-informed psychotherapy with somatic practices, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), and mindfulness-based approaches to support clients in moving beyond traditional talk therapy. She helps clients process experiences that may feel “stuck” in the body and move beyond traditional talk therapy, helping them regulate their nervous system, and develop a greater sense of stability and ease.

With over 10 years of experience in mental health practice, Deshawna has worked across community, education, and justice-based settings, supporting individuals navigating complex emotional, social, and systemic challenges. She brings a culturally responsive and relational approach to her work, creating space for clients to explore the intersections of identity, culture, and lived experience as part of their healing.

Deshawna holds a Master of Social Work from the University of Toronto, where she specialized in Indigenous Trauma and Resiliency. As a Black woman, her lived experience informs her understanding of racial trauma, systemic stress, and the ways these experiences can shape mental health over time. She is also a certified yoga instructor with over 500 hours of training, specializing in restorative and trauma-informed yoga, which she integrates into her therapeutic work when appropriate.

Her approach is rooted in supporting clients to move at their own pace, build sustainable coping strategies, and access deeper healing through both evidence-based and body-based practices.
